Thanks to its wide variety of cultural institutions, Zrich has always had an outstanding reputation as a city where quality of life is valued. Numerous culinary offerings, shopping opportunities and a hip club scene distinguish this cool European capital. Even street food is iconic: dont miss the famous bratwurst at the Vorderen Sternen stand at Bellevue. The crisp brli roll that accompanies this savory sausage has equal foodie cult status.
For stylish dining, try the elegant Restaurant Parkhuus, at the newly opened Park Hyatt. Epicures who want to sample eclectic Swiss cuisine should visit Restaurant Alpenrose. Concerts at Mascotte attract the party crowd. Looking for something more subdued? Indochine is an Asian-style club and lounge in the booming Quarter Zrich West. Other neighborhood favorite include the Labor Bar and Toni Molkerei, where partying isnt the only business at hand. Outside, delivery trucks roll along the impressive entrance spiral to the cold storage facility; inside, sizzling electro-pop and house music heat up the dance crowd.
The arts are equally appreciated in Zrich, which is known as the birthplace of Dada. Cabaret Voltaire was founded in 1919 in the center of the citys Old Town and became an important meeting place for authors, painters, musicians and dancers who devoted their quirky souls to Dadaism. Since the historic cabaret was recently reopened, you can revisit this early 20th century art movement too. Between April and August, an extraordinary exhibition by Academy Award winning artist H.R. Giger will be staged here.
Balletomanes will be drawn irresistably to the classical dance performances at Zrichs Opera House. Under the guidance of Heinz Spoerli, director and chief choreographer, the Zrich Ballet has become a world-class company.
