For those not interested in the caves, a walk starting from Ruakuri reserve trekking through native bush and rolling farmland
into Waitomo village is worth checking out. The natural tunnel and limestone formations are beautiful. Walking time 3-4 days.

Whanganui River Journey*
The Whanganui River winds its way from the mountains to the Tasman Sea through countless hills and valleys. Lowland forest surrounds the river in its middle and lower reaches - the heart of Whanganui National Park.

Tongariro Northern Circuit*
The Tongariro Northern Circuit winds its way over Mt Tongariro and around Mt Ngauruhoe. This walk passes through unique and stunning
landforms including volcanic craters and glacial valleys. Walking time 3-4 days.

Tongariro Crossing
The Tongariro Crossing is considered New Zealand's best one day walk. In the presence of active volcanoes you can
experience a cold mountain
spring, lava flows, an active crate, steam vents, emerald colored lakes and magnificent views.

This walk takes you over the remnants of a 15,000 year old lava flow and up to the 15m Taranaki Falls on the Waiere Stream

Abel Tasman Coastal Track*
The Abel Tasman Coastal Track is a 51km, easy to moderate walking track that passes through a
picturesque landscape of coastal forests and golden
sandy beaches. All streams are bridged and most people can walk it in 3-5 days with plenty of time to explore. There are also numerous shorter
walks that make this an excellent day trip. Walking time 1-5 days.

Cape Foulwind
A walk from the lighthouse across a spectacular headland in Tauranga Bay takes in views of a large seal colony on the
rocks. Walking time 1.5 hours.

Alex Knob Track
A steady climb from the lowlands through sub alpine scrub with suburb views of the glacier, mountains and sea along the way. Walking time 8 hours.

Roberts Point Track
This walk winds through rata and kamahi forest up the Waiho Valley over ice carved rock to a viewpoint high above the glacier. Walking time 6 hours.

Milford Track*
Often described as one of the finest walks in the world, the Milford is a 53.5 track which begins at the head of Lake Te
Anau and concludes at aptly named Sandfly Point, just 20 minutes by boat away from Milford Sound. The undoubted highlight is the
breathtaking alpine
scenery and in particular a chance to visit the Sutherland Falls, the 5th highest in the world. Walking time 4 days.

Heaphy Track*
Crosses a range of landscapes in Kahurangi National Park, from the junction of the Brown and Aorere Rivers, over expansive tussock downs to the lush forests and roaring sea of the West Coast.

Kepler Track*
A 60 kilometre, moderate walking track that takes three to four days to complete. It traverses lake edges, beech forest, alpine mountain tops and a U-shaped glacial valley.

Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track
New Zealands new frontier in tramping experiences. Brand new track in South West Fiordland. Climb 1000 metres on to the Hump Ridge. Complete the loop along an old logging tramway across giant wooden viaducts. A challenging walk combining coastal, sub alpine and bush scenery.
Open November to April. Brand new huts with stunning facilities. Minimum 3 days, 2 nights.
Transport from Tuatapere to the track start at Bluecliffs is $15 each way. Daily in summer.

Stewart Island*
The island has various walking tracks that offer a great chance to see Kiwi in the wild. There is the 3 day Rakiura Track through virgin podocarp forest or for the more hardy there is the 8-10 day northwest circuit that takes you to remote parts of the island.
