Adventure tours and things to do with Stray Backpacker Travel Networks
Stray's travel networks are designed for backpackers who want to get further off the beaten track. As they say, what was once new and exciting in New Zealand is now covered in tourists... they want to show you the real New Zealand. If you are looking for a good time with interesting and fun people and a bit of adventure, then Stray is for you.

The average group size is 35 because "it means you get more personalised service, access to more further off the beaten track accommodation and activity options." Stray may be a new company, but it is run by the guy that started Kiwi Experience. He felt it was getting to big and too much of a party atmosphere so he started Stray to get back to the basics. Their trips are active - if walks and wildlife aren't your thing, don't travel with them... it even says so in the brochure!

That said, Stray reaches more of the country than any of the other tours. They link outstanding attractions on and off the beaten track, take time to take in things through the travel days rather than rush from point to point; they reserve and guarantee beds in all night stopovers, something the other companies don't. From the guiding crew right down to management, they are all dedicated travellers who personally get out there and suss route and activity options.

All passes are valid for 12 months and you can get on and off anywhere over the routes as often as you want. There are a standard minimum of 3 departures per week throughout the Stray network. You will need to reconfirm at least 48 hours before departure.

The fine print: first date of travel must commence within 6 months of purchase unless you come up with a good excuse; departure times and dates may vary without notice and at discretion, simply because they can; they aren't liable for leaving you behind but will try not to; they assume no responsibility for lost or stolen passes, however replacement passes can be issued for an office beer fund fee of NZ$20.
