Long the preferred destination of the British tourist, San Antonio received a huge
boost with the arrival of the major English clubs in 1994. Spearheaded by Manumission, this 2nd
English invasion breathed new life into the town and its club scene. This influx led to the
regeneration of old stalwarts Es Paradis, Eden and Extasis whilst spawning many new beach bars and
chill-out cafs. The latter, are situated on the beaches of the West End, and along the bay of San An.
It's in these cafs that many young clubbers gather each evening in summer to enjoy a drink whilst
watching the sun go down over the tiny islands to the west of town. From here it's only a stone's
throw to the West End, home to the town's greatest concentration of bars and small discos. With its
Happy Hours (2 drinks for the price of 1), booming house music and undeniable buzz, the West End
serves as the ideal starting pointy for a night's clubbing. Further round the bay of San Antonio
lies the island's sole beach-side trance venue, Kumharas.
Recommended Sunsets
Romantic sunsets at Calo des Moro. The original Caf del Mar has now been joined by Caf Mambo,
Savannah, Kanya and the newest 'super-caf', the Coastline. These are very popular pre-club
venues: the sunsets are breathtaking, the music chilled and you can find flyers for all the
coming nights out - good way to keep informed as to what is going on that night. These bars are
often the scene for spontaneous sets from big name DJs, and most of them hold pre-parties for
the popular club nights. There are a number of ticket outlets near the sunset cafs....we can't
stress enough how important it is to buy those tickets before you get to the club: it is often
cheaper, and sometimes saves you queuing.
Bungee
For the really mental, there is a Bungee Rocket outside Es Paradis. Quite pricey, but highly
recommended by discerning clubbers.
Beds, prices and Nationalities
San Antonio has many, many beds, catering for all price categories. Due to the huge concentration
of bars in the town centre, the prices for drinks are kept very low, and Happy-Hours with half-price
drinks are very popular. San Antonio is an ideal resort for younger clubbers who are unable to
hire cars, as all the bars and clubs are within walking distance of one another. If you are
staying in the Bay area, the Disco Bus is a great and cheap way of getting into the town centre.
The majority of clubbers visiting San Antonio are British. Although the numbers of German, Italian and French clubbers have increased dramatically over the last few years.
