Here's some travel advice to keep you informed and safe when it comes
to travel to Guam...
As Guam is an unincorporated US territory, you should read this advice in conjunction with our travel advice for the United States of America.
Crime
Petty and drug or alcohol-related crime is a problem in Guam.
Local Travel
There are US Naval and Air Force bases located on Guam. Guam International Airport may be closed by US authorities without notice for security reasons.
Natural Disasters
Guam is in an active seismic zone. The monsoon season which affects Guam is from June to December and may cause disruptions to air services and water and power supplies. You should keep informed of regional weather forecasts and plan accordingly. Typhoon and storm information for the Pacific Ocean region is available from the USA Navy Joint Typhoon Warning Center ,the USA National Weather Service Forecast Office and the Humanitarian Early Warning Service.
If a natural disaster occurs, follow the advice of local authorities.
Local Law and Customs
Travellers are reminded that when overseas, they are subject to local laws. Local
laws and legal processes can be very different from those at home. A violation
of local laws may result in a jail sentence, served in a local prison. Consular
assistance cannot override local law, even where local laws may appear harsh or
unjust by your standards.
Entry and Exit Requirements
Travellers to Guam should be aware of the need to meet US entry and visa requirements which are subject to change. If you are intending to visit or transit through Guam you should contact the nearest US Embassy or Consulate well in advance of travel. This advice should be read in conjunction with our travel advice for the United States of America.
Health Issues
Dengue fever outbreaks are frequent, especially during the warm wet months of March to May.
Hospital and medical facilities are limited and evacuation may be required in cases of serious illness or accident. If medical travel to Australia is required, the limited number of flights out of Guam could cause difficulty.
The two hyperbaric chambers on Guam are maintained to a high standard.
Your doctor or travel clinic is the best source of information about immunisations
and disease outbreaks overseas. The World Health Organization (WHO) provides useful
tips for staying healthy while travelling overseas.
We strongly recommend that you take out comprehensive travel insurance that will cover any overseas medical costs, before you depart. Confirm that your insurance covers you for the whole time you'll be away and check what circumstances and activities are not included in your policy. Remember, if you can't afford travel insurance, you can't afford to travel.
