Free email addresses and more about email
There's simply no better way to keep in touch with the people at home and those you meet along the way then thru the use of email... you can send pictures and notes back to the fam or coordinate the next city to meet up in. In the past five years email has become the #1 way for travlers to keep in touch with family back home and the friends they meet along the way. With the rise in internet cafes, it's also becoming easier and easier to get access.

Most popular destinations have at least one cyber cafe so unless you're in the jungles of Cambodia you shouldn't have a problem. Cost on the other hand is a widely fluctuating thing. During peak season, we've hear of it costing as much as $12 an hour.

We recommend getting a web based email account before you leave-- they are much easier to check while you're on the road. There are hundred of companies out there that offer free email accounts. Hotmail used to be the best way to go but users complain of the high amount of junk mail that they get... they also only give you 2MB of space and require you log in once every 30 days... Our favorite web-based email provider these days is Yahoo... you get lots of room in your in box and are only required to login once every 60 days. Check out the options out there and find what's best for you...

Here are links to the most popular web-based email providers:
· AOL
· Fastmail
· Hotmail
· iName
· Yahoo!
· Swag Mail

If you want to check your regular (POP) email account from an internet cafe, you'll need to make note of your mail server settings or use a free email service that allows you to check POP accounts.

Internet cafes are easy to find. Check out our list of links to cybercafes world wide.
